Due to, it was the first village founded by the Spanish conquerors on the island (1512) it is known as the First City of Cuba. This attractive city is located in the easternmost province of the country, Guantánamo, bordering Santiago de Cuba. It is the most famous elevation in the Guantánamo province. This mountain, located in the vicinity of Baracoa´s city, was declared a National Monument in 1980 for being a site of extraordinary natural and scenic values. It has a high degree of conservation and endemism.
The tourist farm Rancho Toa is located about 8 km from the city. It shows the life of the Toa farmer. Customers will enjoy a typical meal and a boat ride on the Toa River, the largest in Cuba, located in the Biosphere Reserve Cuchillas from Toa. It is a spectacle of nature from where you can see the majestic Yunque, a natural symbol of Baracoa.
